What is "Suzuki?"
The Suzuki/Mother-Tongue system of education is a guiding philosophy for teachers and parents, an approach to music based on the life work of Shinichi Suzuki (1898-1998). He assembled The Violin School, 10 volumes of pieces and exercises which are popularly used by Suzuki and traditional teachers.
Mr. Suzuki believed that all children have talent. Given a nurturing environment, their talent will blossom. Just as children learn to speak by listening and imitating, Suzuki students learn to play by listening and imitating. Music reading follows as an important part of musicianship. The Suzuki approach is a private lesson approach with group classes also held for a more social musical experience.
